WebRohwer Japanese American Relocation Center During World War II, thousands of Japanese Americans were removed from their homes on the west coast and relocated to camps in remote areas of the nation selected by the United States government. Two of these camps were located in Arkansas, one at Jerome and the other at Rohwer in Desha County. The area was a Japanese internment camp, designed during World War II by the architect Edward F. Neild of Shreveport, Louisiana. The camp opened in March 1942. It is now the site of the Rohwer War Relocation Center.
